News / Chopper emergency
SHETLAND’S two lifeboats were launched and two auxiliary coastguard teams were scrambled after the islands’ coastguard search and rescue helicopter Oscar Charlie declared a full emergency late on Friday morning.
The alert came in at 11.40am as the aircraft approached Sumburgh airport in gale force south easterly winds, but shortly afterwards the chopper landed safely and the emergency services were stood down.
A coastguard spokesman said they could not comment further on the incident.
