News / Diverse Althing topics
THE FIRST World War, Harry Potter vs Shakespeare, beards, poverty and Lerwick being “too big for its boots” are the exceedingly diverse array of topics for this winter’s Althing debates.
The Tingwall-based society is looking for anyone interested in speaking at the debates to get in touch.
Following October’s debate in the aftermath of the Scottish independence referendum, Saturday 15 November will see the spotlight fall on war with the motion “Commemoration of the First World War damages the cause of peace”.
The pre-Christmas debate on Saturday 13 December asks whether “Harry Potter is more relevant than Hamlet”.
Mid January sees “The beard maketh the man”, followed in February by “Shetland is a bad place to be poor” and, finally, on Saturday 14 March participants will debate whether “Lerwick is too big for its boots”.
