A MAN has been charged with committing a hate crime and is in custody following an “altercation” involving four men on Lerwick’s Commercial Street in the early hours of Tuesday.

Both will be the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal, the police said, and anyone with information on the incident is asked to dial 101 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Meanwhile police were alerted to the damage of a vehicle on Scalloway’s Main Street at 9.30pm on Sunday. It is believed the damage was inflicted at around 9.15pm.
Officers are keen to speak to a man between the age of 20 and 30 who is approximately 5ft 10inches tall with dark hair and a beard. He is said to have been wearing a blue jacket and jeans.
A police spokesman said the many was “in the company of a number of males when he attempted to run across the top of a Volkswagen Polo. This act would appear to have been witnessed by the group.”
