ISLANDERS will get the chance to experience life behind the lens with multiple award winning wildlife photographer, cameraman and explorer Doug Allan this winter.
Allan will host an evening of enthralling personal recollections from his travels around the world at Mareel on Thursday 4 December.
From being dragged under water by a hungry walrus to being poked by a polar bear in his sleep, it is said that Allan “never fails to entertain with his exciting stories, Scottish charm and warm sense of humour”.
In 2012 he published the book ‘Freeze Frame’, about his life as a polar cameraman, and he recently appeared in the BBC’s ‘Wild Cameramen At Work’, in which David Attenborough said: “For me, wildlife cameramen don’t come much more special than Doug. There’s just no one else who knows these frozen worlds as he does.”
Allan is well known for his photography and camerawork on hugely successful BBC series including ‘Life’, ‘Human Planet’, ‘Blue Planet’, ‘Planet Earth’ and the recently acclaimed ‘Frozen Planet’ and ‘Ocean Giants’.
He also filmed and presented the BBC’s ‘Operation Iceberg’, while in July he was the castaway on Radio 4’s iconic ‘Desert Island Discs’.
With the use of mesmerising footage and incredible photographs, he will chat to the audience about his latest stories and adventures: “What’s great about taking face to face is that it’s my chance to bring people right in behind the scenes,” he said. “It’s like live TV, only better!”
