News / Secondary consultation starts

Whalsay School.

CONSULTATION on closing or removing fourth year education from the secondary schools in Mid Yell and Whalsay begins on Friday.

The consultation will run until Tuesday 18 November, with four public meetings to be held from 7 to 9pm at:
• Whalsay school on 30 September;
• Mid Yell junior high school on 2 October;
• Anderson high school on 6 October; and
• Anderson high school on 7 October.

Shetland Islands Council has published its proposal papers online at http://www.shetland.gov.uk/education/schools_reconfiguration_project.asp

Printed copies are available from Hayfield House, Shetland Library, Mid Yell Junior High School, Whalsay School and Anderson High School.

The Anderson high school meetings will be held to discuss the potential impact on that school.

Vaila Wishart, who chairs the SIC’s education and families committee, said: “It is essential that anyone with an interest in this important issue makes their views known to us. “Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions you may have about the process.”
