News / Tory leader visit
SCOTTISH Conservative party leader Ruth Davidson will make a “flying visit” to Shetland to take in the Cunningsburgh Show on Wednesday.
Davidson’s visit comes weeks after UK Prime Minister David Cameron visited the isles. The local Better Together campaign will have a gazebo at Wednesday’s show, where she will have a chance to meet and chat to local visitors between 1pm and 3pm.
Shetland Conservative Association chairman Maurice Mullay welcomed the news of her visit and expressed his excitement at the chance to welcome her.
“I am delighted Ruth is making the trip to Shetland to support the local Conservatives and particularly the local Better Together Shetland campaign,” Mullay said.
“I’m sure her flying visit will prove a great success and I know a great many local people are looking forward to meeting her.”
He added: “Ruth is a strong supporter of the United Kingdom, as are a majority of Shetlanders, so the visit to the Better Together stand will hopefully prove a highlight of your visit to the Cunningsburgh Show.”
A host of national politicians are taking the opportunity to visit Shetland during the referendum campaign. Following Cameron’s visit, on Friday it was confirmed that Scotland’s deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon will visit on 27 August.
