News / Another heavy lift

SHETLAND strongman Dhanni Moar has qualified for this year’s United Strongmen world championships to be held in the Finnish town of Pyhtää on 1 and 2 November.

The joiner from Sandwick came 5th at last weekend’s Britain’s Strongest Man u105Kg competition, which was held in Ayrshire.

Moar achieved the highest ranking by a Scotsman at a British u105kg final.

“It’s the first time a Scot has qualified for the world’s championship in this weight class, and I still can’t believe I did it,” he said.

He added that along with the Commonwealth Games success of 13 year old Erraid Davies his qualification for the world championships had to be “the highest level of completion for a Shetlander”.

Meanwhile, former Tingwall resident Helen Hak became Europe’s second most powerful woman in the u63 kg weight class at the same event in Ayrshire.
