News / No bail for Bailey
A SHETLAND man charged with intending to steal when he was arrested at a building site in Lerwick’s Fort Road on Friday night had bail refused at the town’s sheriff court on Monday afternoon.
Appearing from custody, Wesley Bailey has also been charged with breaking into and stealing money and packets of crisps from the south mainland swimming pool, in Sandwick, as well as breaking into and intending to steal from the Sandwick junior high school, both on 18 May.
The 34 year old of no fixed abode is further accused of possessing heroin at Lerwick’s Hoofields on 13 May, and failing to comply with bail conditions between 24 May and 24 July.
In court on Monday, Bailey insisted he had an address in Sandwick and the prospect of work.
But honorary sheriff Arnold Duncan agreed with procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie who strongly opposed the defence’s application for bail.
The sheriff said the level of seriousness of each individual charge justified keeping Bailey behind bars.
The cases were continued without plea until 4 August.
