News / Lasses finish trek

A MAMMOTH 60-mile charity trek around the coastline of Unst drew to a close at the Westing beach on Sunday afternoon.

Seven Unst lasses – Siobhan Pirie, Alana Johnson, Fern Johnson, Jennifer Hamilton, Andrea Laurenson, Lindsey Jamieson and Jodie Clark – walked the equivalent of more than two marathons around the island’s hills and cliffs between Thursday and Sunday.

The four-day walk has so far raised £2,250 in aid of three different charities: Mind Your Head, the MS Society and Action for ME. Including gift aid more than £2,700 has been raised to date.

Pirie said: “The trek was completed this afternoon! We are absolutely overwhelmed by the support we have received over the past few days and cannot thank people enough as it really helped.

“The total is increasing all the time and we hope to get the final total next weekend once all sponsorship forms are collected.”
