Letters / Questionable ethic
You only have to look at the Shetland News, Shetland Times and social media posts to see that the suggestion of burying the Viking Energy hatchet is either astonishing naivety or breathtaking arrogance.
The people opposed to this development fall into the category of those who stand up for what they believe in, or in this case don’t believe in.
They don’t believe in gambling millions of charitable money on a high-risk investment.
They don’t believe in industrialising a huge swathe of environmentally valuable, unspoiled terrain.
And they certainly don’t believe in causing harm to other peoples’ health and well being in the pursuit of riches.
Money cannot buy you love or happiness, but that seems to have been forgotten in the rush towards the risk of financial bankruptcy and the certainty of moral bankruptcy.
Fortunately there is a large group of people who don’t subscribe to this questionable ethic – and they’re not going to go away.
