News / Stillbirth charity walk

Marie Manson and Allison Hutchison walk in support of Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

TWO Whalsay women are embarking on a 17-mile sponsored walk across the Bonnie Isle to raise funds for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

The charity is close to the hearts of Marie Manson and Allison Hutchison whose sons Kieran and Ross were both born sleeping.

Their 17-mile walk on Saturday will highlight that 17 babies are either stillborn or die shortly after birth per day in the UK alone.

Having already exceeded their original target of raising £1,700 they are asking people to continue donating to the good cause via www.justgiving.com/marie-manson1/

Sands has a nationwide network of local groups run by bereaved parents to support anyone affected by the loss of a baby.

Manson said: “The money we raise will go to the Aberdeen Sands, where it will be used to support parents who have unfortunately gone though this, all the gift aid money will go to the national Sands.”

The pair will start their Whalsay walk at Clate at 10.30am, heading down to the pier, then to round the big Brough loop, to the Crossroads and onto Skaw.

Following a short break they will be heading back to the Crossroads and then round the east side of the isle to Sandwick and finally the Oot Ower Lounge where friends and family will be there to support their efforts.
