News / Charged with causing death by dangerous driving
A 20-YEAR local man is facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice when he appeared from custody and in private before Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday afternoon.
John James Pottinger made no plea or declaration and was committed to further examination. He was released on bail.
Pottinger (locally known as Jamie) was arrested in the early hours of Sunday following a fatal road accident near the Bridge End junction at Hamnavoe, on Burra.
Father of three George Michael Armour, aged 38, was killed when he was struck by a car at 1.50am on Sunday morning.
Police carried out extensive investigation at the accident site on Burra but also at the south entrance to the Tingwall valley, five miles north of the scene of the accident.

Mr Armour’s family responded by saying: “Thank you all fir your kind words. Our family will miss him loads especially his kids.”
