News / Bail is refused

A TEENAGER charged with repeatedly making unnecessary 999 calls was remanded in custody when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Nathan Hilditch, 19, of Horseshoe Close, Virkie, appeared on a charge alleging that he made calls to Police Scotland “for purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to officers and staff” between 18 May and 2 June.

He is also charged with attempting to steal a vehicle from Dragontree Cottage in Virkie on 26 May, and with assaulting a man by repeatedly throwing punches at him on the same day.

Hilditch made no plea and his case was continued until 10 June. Honorary sheriff Eric Peterson refused the defence’s application for bail.

Meanwhile a 25 year old man has been released on bail after appearing on a charge of assaulting his former partner.

Graeme Hannah, of Westcliffe, Hamnavoe, made no plea or declaration in relation to an assault alleged to have taken place at an address in Scalloway on Monday.

He is accused of pushing the woman onto a couch, pinning her down, repeatedly punching her on the head and body and spitting on her face.

Hannah’s case was continued without plea until 26 June. He was granted bail with special conditions that he must not approach the complainer or enter the village of Scalloway.
