News / Constable guilty
A POLICE constable is facing an uncertain employment future after pleading guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening manner at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.
Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday that Matthew Ross is a serving police officer – but a spokesman declined to give details of any possible internal disciplinary action.
In court on Monday defence agent Tommy Allan said Ross, who has been suffering from depression, faced a situation where his future employment “may not be assured”.
The 19 year old had sentence deferred until the end of November for him to be of good behavior after admitting to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his girlfriend at Posers nightclub on 30 March.
The Police Scotland spokesman said: “As the sentence is deferred we wouldn’t be saying anything further until such time.”
In court on Monday, Ross pled guilty to backing the girl up against a wall, verbally abusing her and striking the wall beside her head with his hand.
