News / Drug dealer absconds
A LIVERPOOL drug dealer who was jailed for mailing thousands of pounds worth of heroin to Shetland has failed to return to prison after a period of leave.
Anthony Smith and his brother Paul were sentenced to six years in jail at the high court in Aberdeen on 12 March 2012.
Both men admitted posting heroin worth almost £30,000 to Lerwick after they were caught in a major police operation in England and Scotland.
On Thursday the police said that Smith was last seen in the Croxteth area of Liverpool on 12 March, where he was visiting family during a period of leave from Castle Huntly prison near Dundee.
A police spokeswoman said: “Anthony is 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build, with short brown hair. He has a tattoo on his left arm with the word “Bobbie”.
“He is known to travel on public transport and has friends and family in the Aberdeen and Liverpool areas.
“Anyone who has seen Anthony or who has information as to where he is now should contact Police Scotland on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
