News / West End dance classes
WEST End musical performer and dance teacher Francesca Leyland will host a series of dance classes for boys and girls at Mareel in early April.
Leyland, originally from Lerwick but now living in London, has been teaching children across the southeast of England for over six years.
The classes, Mini Dance for pre-school kids and West End to Shetland for primary school kids, are a fun introduction to ballet and jazz through lots of well known songs and even some singing too!
Leyland was awarded the BP scholarship in 2007 when she gained a place at the Dance School of Scotland, in Glasgow.
She said: “The idea of this award was that one day I could come home to Shetland and share the skills I have learned with local children.”
Mini Dance classes will run on 2 and 3 April starting at 10am (£4 for a 45 minute long session), while four to six year olds can attend a 90 minute class on the same day starting at 11am (cost £6).
A class for seven to nine year olds will be held on 2 April starting at 12.30 (cost £6).
Adults will be required to stay for the duration of the class due to the age of the children. Dress code: tutus, leotards, leggings, t-shirts, anything which is easy to move in. Shoes: either ballet shoes or bare feet.
All classes can be booked via www.shetlandboxoffice.org
