News / Court in brief
A MAN from Falkirk who drove while disqualified in Shetland has narrowly avoided a prison sentence.
Thirty three year old Alan McNaughton, of Carmuirs Avenue, Camelon, already had two previous convictions for the same offence when police caught up with him at the Esplanade in Lerwick on 10 November.
Sheriff William Taylor said McNaughton had “a real problem” and ordered him to carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work.
He also imposed a one year community payback order and a curfew forcing McNaughton to remain at home from 9pm to 6am each night.
“You’re really in the last chance saloon,” the sheriff told him. “Treat this as a wake-up call and get your life in order.”
Meanwhile, stealing from his partner’s home and another dwelling in Lerwick landed a 21 year old man a one year community payback order.
Ian Mutch, of Arheim, Lerwick admitted stealing a safe and its contents from his partner’s home on 26 September last year.
Appearing in Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday, he also pleaded guilty to stealing mail from another house on 24 October.
A man found in possession of heroin at a Leslie Road address late last year was fined £250.
Andrew Halcrow, 38, of Laxdale Road, Cunningsburgh admitted possessing two pieces of burnt tin foil containing traces of the class A substance with a nominal value.
