News / Cannabis supply

A 20 YEAR OLD who admitted supplying cannabis and diazepam narrowly avoided jail when he appeared for sentencing at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Ryan Galbraith, of Da Vadill, Lerwick, had previously admitted supplying four people with cannabis at Nordavatn and Sandveien in Lerwick between September 2012 and February 2013.

He also pleaded guilty to supplying diazepam, and was then found by police in possession of amphetamine with intent to supply last February.

Sheriff William Taylor said that while committing such offences “might ordinarily result in being sent to prison”, the latest report from social workers suggested “you seem to be changing for the better”.

“There’s some hope for you,” he told Galbraith as he imposed a one year community payback order and applied a curfew between 7pm and 7am on week nights.
