Letters / Let’s just wait
The only reason for the consideration of an interconnector at this time is that without it the Viking Energy project would be absolutely not viable financially.
Stuart Hill’s letter eloquently, with Mr Bunyan’s help, outlines the stupidity of the wind farm mind set (Waste of money; SN 20/2/14).
Now when, and at such time, the far more powerful and reliable ability to harness tidal power exists, then an interconnector may be justifiable.
However that time is not here yet, so let’s just wait a while, and save a billion or so of public monies, and at the same time preserve a unique and priceless peatland environment.
That would be true intelligent green energy, without the damage to local communities, wildlife (if managed sensibly), and destruction of Shetland’s beauty.
