News / Disturbance at hospital
AN 18 year old who admitted his behaviour at the Gilbert Bain Hospital had been “bang out of order” has been remanded in custody.
Larri Goodlad of Hill Grind, Lerwick pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing, making threats and behaving aggressively at his home and at the Lerwick hospital on Sunday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said Goodlad had phoned the police himself saying he was going to take his own life.
When officers arrived at his house Goodlad became aggressive, began punching walls and ended up injuring himself. When he was taken to hospital, Mackenzie said, he had started shouting, swearing and threatening to stab people.
At the time two very young people were being treated in the hospital’s A&E department. Mackenzie said they had been “very distressed” by the beahivour of Goodlad, who had been under the influence of alcohol, cannabis and amphetamine at the time.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said Goodlad, who was already on bail, had “for the most part managed to behave himself while on a tag” and had been cooperating fully with social workers.
But he had been apologetic following Sunday’s incident, saying in his statement that he was “sorry for causing a disturbance at the hospital – it was bang out of order”.
Sentence was deferred until Thursday 9 January by Sheriff Philip Mann, who refused a request for bail and ruled that Goodlad should stay behind bars for the next three days.
