Letters / The Union is family
A wonderful private message by a female follower of the Vote No 2014 page:
“I have not posted on the site, but I care about Scotland and I really hope there is a no vote next year and Scotland stays in the UK.
“I see all the time the phrase written by yes supports “so why are they (the UK) so desperate to hang on to us” the inference is that it is for some ulterior motive, this mainly seems to centered around North Sea Oil and Gas or other so called unique Scottish resources.
“I was born in Ladybank, lived in Scotland until I was 26, when I got married and then spent the next 25 years moving from place to place in the UK, as my husband was in the RAF. I have lived in North, South, East and South West of England and in South Wales.
“In all these places I have never felt or have been made to feel an outsider I have always felt at home everywhere, where I have lived in the UK.
“The English stereotype that seemed to form my opinions in my early adult life even to the point of voting SNP when I was 18, is all but a distant memory, I often wonder how I could have been so naive to believe that the people that I interact with on a daily basis, somehow different to me, my family and friends that I grew up with in Scotland and they are still a big part of my life today.
“So why do UK want to hang on to us? I think they want to hang on to us because we are a family and families stick together in the good times and bad times, we have come so far together and we have a long way to go together.
Sorry I cannot give some brilliant economic reason for staying in the Union, the Union is more than that, it’s what we feel in our hearts that matters more than just the pounds and pence.”

Brae.
