I always thought that the job of Secretary of State for Scotland was to act as Scotland’s man in the Cabinet, and not as Westminster’s man in Scotland. (What’s in the job spec? SN, 13/12/13)

Alistair is being creative in rewriting the specification for this largely redundant post by making it cheerleader for a largely redundant United Kingdom state.
