News / NorthLink: ferry update
WITH another Arctic blast expected as of Wednesday night, ferry operator Serco NorthLink is warning of possible disruptions to its lifeline routes.
Wednesday night’s call at Kirkwall of the southbound Hrossey has now been cancelled due to severe weather conditions.
The ferry will now depart Lerwick at 5.30pm and sail directly to Aberdeen.
Her return journey north on Thursday is currently under review as storm force winds of up to 80 miles per hour are forecast to batter the far north.
Ferry passengers are also advised that the Hjaltland, sailing south on Thursday and coming back north the following day, may experience possible delays.
Senior Met Office advisor Graeme Forrester said on Wednesday morning: “The worst of the conditions are forecast in the highlands and northern Scotland with winds of up to 80mph possible.
“However, parts of the central belt will also be affected by some very strong winds during Thursday morning’s rush hour period.”
