GUSTS of up to 70 miles per hour are possible across the northern isles on Friday, according to weather forecasters.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning on Thursday morning saying that northwesterly gales will reach severe gale force nine.
The strongest gusts are expected over Orkney.
The public should be aware of the possibility of disruption to travel, the Met Office said.
Thursday night’s sailings of the Hjaltland and Hrossey are so far unaffected by Friday’s forecast.
