News / ‘Audacious’ emergency over
A NORTH east fishing boat that sparked an emergency when it started taking in water early on Thursday morning is back at work hours after the incident.
The crew of the Banff-registered Audacious were working 30 miles south east of Sumburgh when they issued a Mayday at 6.40am.
Shetland coastguard responded by scrambling their rescue helicopter and the Lerwick lifeboat was launched shortly afterwards to lend assistance.
However by 8.25am the crew had managed to effect repairs and were heading back to the fishing grounds, while the rescue craft returned to base.
The Audacious crew were in trouble in August last year when their vessel sank 40 miles off Aberdeen. All six crew were rescued from their liferafts.
The new vessel was previously known as Nordfjordr and was registered in Peterhead, until it was renamed recently.
