News / Not so noisy
THE PROBLEM of noisy neighbours in Shetland is on the decrease, according to the island’s chief policeman.
Chief inspector Angus MacInnes was responsible for coordinating the highlands and islands wide Operation Notebook campaign last Friday to clamp down on anti social behaviour.
While police visited 20 addresses across the region and were given a further 25 to look into, only one property was brought to their attention in Shetland.
MacInnes said: “At the beginning of the summer there were six addresses that were getting warnings (about anti social behaviour).
“Last month there were two, one in Scalloway and one in Lerwick, and this month there is just one in Lerwick.
“We don’t want people to stop enjoying themselves, we just want them to act responsibly and though the situation is getting better in Shetland we want it to stay that way.”
He said the main problem was people coming home from a night out and turning on the TV or music too loud and disturbing the neighbours.
“Especially with the work going on at Sullom Voe at the moment people are working hard for long hours and we want them to be able to enjoy some peace when they get home.”
The police will be running further campaigns in the build up to the festive season with a focus on drinking and licensed premises.
