Letters / Workers vote against independence
Douglas Young is at it again (Paralysis; SN, 24/10/13). He has conveniently forgotten about the £120 million loan guarantee from Westminster for future investment in the troubled Grangemouth plant to go along with Hollyrood’s £9 million.
If he had listened to the news on BBC Scotland he would have been aware that Westminster were seeking new owners along with the Scottish Government.
If you really want to relate this incident to your Yes campaign, Douglas, look at it in relation to the extremely volatile and fragile nature of the very industry you and Salmond are basing your bid for independence on, and just how easily it can come crashing down around your ears.
Ask yourself how many other companies at the top of the oil tree are not British and could this happen in another branch of the oil industry bringing it to a halt and shutting the door on your dream?
Douglas, you will have seen the Dunfermline by election result by now and you will realise that a large percentage of workers from the Rosyth dockyard come from Dunfermline.
This is them telling you and Salmond they don’t want to lose their jobs in an independent Scotland, they have seen what it can do to a whole community by what has just happened in Grangemouth.
