News / Body found in hunt for missing pensioner

POLICE in Shetland have now confirmed that the body of a man found on the shoreline below Breiwick Road, in Lerwick, is that of missing man Alistair Wishart.

Mr Wishart’s remains were recovered by emergency services on Tuesday afternoon, following two days of extensive searches.

A police spokeswoman said that enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death were still ongoing.

The 74 year old was last seen on Saturday evening in Lerwick’s John Jamieson Close, and was reported missing on Sunday afternoon.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
