News / Green cash

TWO organisations in Shetland have netted almost £200,000 in “green” cash from the Scottish government to invest in energy-saving measures.

Burravoe hall, in Yell, has been awarded £144,250 to insulate the building to make it a warm and comfortable community asset with reduced energy use and carbon emissions.

In addition, the project aims to inform the community how they can use the hall and their own homes in an energy-efficient manner, decreasing energy use, bills and carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, Sandwick Social and Economic Development Company is being given £53,600 to instigate energy-saving measures in the Hoswick visitor centre.

The measures will not only reduce bills but will also allow the community to plan events during the winter months knowing that the centre will be warm.

The money awarded to the two local projects was part of £3.6 million of climate change funding for 32 projects across Scotland, announced by environment minister Paul Wheelhouse.
