News / A Basil Fawlty moment
A LATVIAN man living in Lerwick suffered a “Basil Fawlty moment” during an argument with his partner over an impending holiday.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Thursday that 39 year old Algers Kadils, of 29 Cheyne Crescent, had been taken alcohol on 31 May when the row broke out about how the pair were going to travel to their native land.
Kadils wanted to fly, but she wanted to drive and, according to procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie, he “lost his rag”.
He walked out of the house and up to his parked car, pulled out a golf club and started hitting it, denting the bodywork.
“Not being flippant, there is something Basil Fawlty about it,” the fiscal said.
Kadils had pled guilty to breaching the peace by letter, but while his interpreter had flown to Shetland to attend his hearing at public expense, he failed to show up.
Sheriff Philip Mann deferred sentence so that he did appear in the dock, but said he would be admonished.
