News / Council survey warning
Trading standards officers in Shetland are warning about Philippino cold callers asking for personal details for a “resources survey” on behalf of Shetland Islands Council, after one island resident was contacted by phone.
Trading standards team leader David Marsh stressed: “Shetland Islands Council is not currently undertaking any such survey, and would never be asking for people’s personal financial details in this manner.
“Never give out bank account or card numbers, or other personal details, to someone who phones you up and asks for them.
Information about dealing with cold-callers, along with general consumer advice, can be found at www.shetland.gov.uk/tradingstandards.
