News / It’s exam results day!

MORE THAN 700 teenagers across Shetland eagerly awaiting (or dreading) their exams results will finally hold the A4 envelope from the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) in their hands on Tuesday morning.

The Scottish government said the country’s young people were high achievers as standard grade and higher results are at record levels.

Scottish key results are:

  • Overall pass rate for advanced highers increased by two percentage points to 82.1 per cent;
  • Overall pass rate for highers increased by 0.5 percentage points to 77.4 per cent;
  • Overall pass rates for intermediate levels one and two increased to 77.8 and 81.8 per cent respectively;
  • Overall pass rate for standard grades increased by 0.1 percentage points to 98.9 per cent;
  • Overall pass rates for access levels two and three increased to 71 and 93.6 per cent respectively.

Detailed results and reactions from Shetland will be available later on Tuesday.

Youth employment minister Angela Constance said help was available for those who hadn’t achieved what they had hoped.

“The wait for tens of thousands of Scotland’s pupils and their families is finally over, and I am delighted that so many have come out with strong grades, leaving them well positioned for whatever they choose to do next.

 “For those young people out there who haven’t got what they had hoped for, did even better, or who are simply unsure what to do next, there is help available,” she said.

The Skills Development Scotland (SDS) exam results helpline on 0808 100 8000 is open from 8am until 8pm on 6 and 7 August, from 9am to 5pm weekdays until 14 August and 10am to 6pm weekends.
