News / Bed shortage delays trial
A TRIAL at Lerwick Sheriff Court has had to be adjourned for two weeks because there are not enough beds in the town for the only visiting witness.
Amanda Williamson, aged 26, of 141 Sandveien, Lerwick, has denied acting in a racially aggravated manner at the Harbour Chip Shop in the town on 3 March this year.
Her case was due to be part heard on Wednesday, but procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the single witness due to give evidence was unable to find any accommodation.
Rooms are at a premium in the isles with a combination of oil workers building the Shetland gas plant and refurbishing the Sullom Voe oil terminal, and tourists arriving for a summer break.
The trial will now take place on 24 July.
