News / Worker tried torching car

A VISITING construction worker in Shetland admitted trying to torch a car in the township of Brae, when he appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Dean Armstrong, aged 27, of 6 Bridge Road, Lynemouth, Northumberland, admitted lighting a piece of oiled paper and trying to set fire to the car, as well as ripping out its stereo system, breaking its ignition cowling and pouring oil on its seat in Runaafirth on Sunday.

Sentence was deferred until 11 July for social work reports. Armstrong was ordered to leave the islands within 24 hours and not return until his next court appearance.

Meanwhile 39 year old Aigers Kadils of 29 Cheyne Crescent, Lerwick, had sentence deferred for good behaviour after he appeared from custody charged with breaching the peace.

He admitted brandishing a golf club and using it to dent the bodywork of a car on Cheyne Crescent last Friday.
