News / Safebreaker must work
A FORMER employee who used a key to break into a safe and steal £2,655 from Lerwick’s Christian café, The Havly, was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the community at the town’s sheriff court on Wednesday.
Sentence on 37 year old Martin Harris, of 7 Charlotte Street, was deferred earlier this month for social work reports after he admitted the theft.
On Wednesday the court heard that Harris had paid back all the money and was receiving support from friends for the mental and family problems that had led to the crime.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said little thought and planning had gone into the theft, which had been out of character was unlikely to happen again.
