Thank you for your report that Shetland Aerogenerators are sponsoring the “Shetland Climate Change Summit MkII” to be held in Mareel on 6 June.
Sadly I can’t attend so here are a few questions which spring instantly to mind.
Angus Ward, director of Shetland Aerogenerators is quoted as saying: “This conference is not about pushing a particular point of view”
Really, then why is it skewed to emphasise only aspects of “climate change” which have already been blamed – extravagantly in my view – on global warming which despite ever-rising concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide has now been halted for 16 years (even the Met Office and James Hansen admit that!)?
Not skewed? Here’s what the presenters themselves think:
“Reid said: “I think climate change is the biggest issue facing the global community. It is essential that young people are aware of this issue and how it affects everybody’s lives.”
Hill added: “Young people will bear the brunt of climate change and it is humbling to see their commitment to making a difference.”” La-di-da! Well, no one can say “climate change” isn’t affecting the lives of Hill and Reid they’re assiduously trailing the “Golden Goose.”
If this isn’t “pushing a particular point of view” then why are there no speakers against these Met Office “drum-bangers”?
No Dr Benny Peiser, Director of the GWPF, for example, who was invited to speak at a recent – balanced – event in Orkney – hmm? It’s obvious why they’ve booked Mareel instead of going to the Althing, it wouldn’t pass muster there as it’s only the speeches from one side that will be heard.
Why is it accompanied by a “free-screening” of the film “Thin Ice”? Is that being paid for by Shetland Aerogenerators or by someone else and if so, who?

Why are our schoolchildren being subjected to the, again one sided, propaganda film “Chasing Ice”? Not one sided? Then why doesn’t it cover the all time record high ice levels currently recorded in the Antarctic – mmm?
I’m sorry, Shetland children deserve much better from our education system; when I was at school we were exhorted to question what we read and heard, especially, from the media and vested interests which brings me to my final two questions:
Are Angus Ward and Shetland Aerogenerators motivated by philanthropy inspired by the success of their Burradale investment or a desire to further the aims of their commitment to Viking Energy?
If it’s purely philanthropic then why isn’t it a balanced debate, why not Benny Peiser instead of Alex Hill?
Either way, it adds up to a tawdry spectacle.
