I agree with Craig Johnson (Hit the nail on the head, SN, 18 May 13) that Viking Energy are now saying the opposite of what they said last year – that they cannot proceed without reduced transmission charges.
That volte-face is puzzling, and does not inspire confidence.
It is interesting to read in the DECC report that “it is likely that a significant proportion of the incremental costs of the transmission upgrades would be charged to island generators”.
Also from the report – they envisage 1,800MW of onshore wind in Shetland by 2030, or about five wind farms the same as the proposed Viking project.
Where are all the turbines going to go?
