Letters / Stop the madness
From the latest statement from Viking Energy (Viking Energy not viable, says chairman, SN, 15 May 13) it would seem that the chairman is now coming over to views of us dissenters by saying that the project may not be viable after all.
Not quite there yet but making sound progress I think the report card should read. After a little more introspection he will be fully on board.
I remember all the way back to 2007 when the Windylights road shows told us awing masses about this glorious wind farm scheme which would be the saviour of Shetland.
No return to the austere 1950s, no need to worry about Sullom Voe shutting down, granny would be safe and jobs galore for generation to come.
Of course many of us saw through all this moonshine and we were called all matter of names for our temerity in even questioning the Great Ones. What were they? O yes – purveyors of disinformation, scaremongers, quacks, bogeymen and even some equally iniquitous neologisms as they ran out of suitable descriptions for the non-conformists.
Well, we were all right!
I shudder to think how much public money has been spent enabling the chairman to come to such a conclusion, but whatever it is no more of Shetlands’ funds should be spent on this incredulous scheme.
The whole project is now dead in the water, a non-starter, a dud, a lemon, a turkey – a complete and utter drongo in fact.
So I now reiterate to VE and its associated disorganised rabble of weak-kneed supporters with all their cockalorum to open their eyes and stop this madness once and for all.
How many times must they be told that the wind farm project is just not fit for purpose and never will be?
