News / Commonwealth celebrations

Thistle get them going. Tavish steers clear of national politics and sticks to sport with Glasgow 2014 mascot Clyde.

SHETLAND MSP Tavish Scott is encouraging local groups to apply for funding to run events or projects linked to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Anyone interested can apply to the Lottery funded Celebrate through its website for between £500 and £10,000, he said.

The cash is available for arts, heritage, sports and local community celebrations of the 2014 Commonwealth Games or the diversity of the Commonwealth itself.

The money can go to a one off event or a project leading up to a celebration.

“Shetlanders are experts at organising inspirational community events and there’s no reason that those who can’t make it to Glasgow need to miss out on the fun or the funding,” Scott said.

More information, including case studies and the application form can be found on the Celebrate website at http://www.celebrateit.org.uk/
