News / Havly safebreaker
A FORMER employee at Lerwick’s Christian café The Havly pled guilty to stealing thousands of pounds from the organisation’s lockfast safe when he appeared at the town’s sheriff court on Thursday.
Sentence has been deferred for reports on 37 year old Martin Harris who admitted stealing £2,655 from the Charlotte Street building on 4 April.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court that Harris lived next door to the café at 7 Charlotte Street and had been given a key to the safe.
He said that Harris had no previous convictions, but was carrying a considerable amount of debt at the time of the theft.
Harris will return to court for sentence on 29 May.
