JOBS at the Lerwick branch of DE Shoes have been secured after a deal to sell five of the company’s stores to north of Scotland rival Begg Shoes and Bags went through.

The other four retail outlets sold by the family owned business are in Kirkwall, Elgin, Inverurie and Peterhead.

Earlier this year, DE Shoes reported financial difficulties and launched a 90 day consultation process with its 200 staff.

Now with the sale of five of its 31 stores, up to 50 jobs are said to have been saved. The future of the remaining stores is likely to be revealed after 19 April.

DE Shoes managing director William Smith said: “Begg Shoes and Bags Ltd is another longstanding family business with a proud history of serving local communities.”
