News / Marathon woman
A YOUNG Lerwick woman will be taking part in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Edinburgh Half Marathon next month to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Donna Simpson will complete the gruelling 13.1 miles course in memory of her late grandmother who died of bowel cancer in 1997.
The 24 year old said she was determined to go the distance to raise at least £1,000 to support the work of the cancer charity.
She said her family had a “long line of breast cancer sufferers” with three generations of women who have died.
Her grandmother Georgina ‘Sheena’ Simpson had successfully received treatment for cancer when she was later diagnosed with bowel cancer.
She said: “It’s brilliant doing something so positive for Cancer Research UK. I’m so proud to be doing my part to make a difference.”
In 2010 and 2012 the care worker teamed up with friends to take part in the very successful Relay for Life events, in Lerwick.
