Letters / Class difference
Reading about the Shetland Islands Council’s cutbacks followed up with rent rises and now children to fight Shetland’s unforgiving weather in winter is bad enough.
But the government’s bedroom tax is the most degrading and appalling idea put forward by a member of government whose members don’t live in council housing.
I feel sorry for millions of people across the country who have families, and those who have lived in their present homes since childhood and now having their living standards manipulated.
The suggestion that a room be used to let out is not advisable nowadays especially with children and more to the point is not allowed in a council house.
The class difference is rearing its head again and this country is being pushed to the limit. The public at some stage will march to the door of Downing Street.
Mr Alistair Carmichael must realise that many like myself will no longer be a supportive Conservative vote.
Mr Carmichael should take the message to (a very comfortable) Mr Cameron: “What are you thinking a council house is? A Home!”
