News / Brent’s back
THE FLOW of oil through the Brent pipeline is in the process of being restored after operator TAQA Bratani shut it down at the weekend following a leak in the Cormorant Alpha platform, 94 miles northeast of Lerwick.
A spokesman for the Abu Dhabi-owned energy giant said an investigation had found no connection between the pipeline and the leak in one of the platform’s legs, which was detected on Saturday.
“The process of restarting Brent throughput follows a thorough technical evaluation that shows it is safe to do so without any increased risk to Cormorant Alpha,” he said.
Cormorant Alpha normally handles approximately 90,000 barrels per day of crude oil feeding the Brent pipeline system, including approximately 10,000 bpd in Cormorant Alpha production.
Cormorant Alpha production remains closed while work on the platform leg continues, the spokesman said
Throughout at Shetland’s Sullom Voe oil terminal has been running at half capacity since the shut down.
