News / Physicist tours isles
AROUND 50 people attended a public lecture by Dr Lyndsay Fletcher from the department of physics and astronomy at Glasgow University, who spoke on solar storms and northern lights.
Dr Fletcher showed a variety of images and movies taken in ultra-violet and higher wavelengths, which revealed new insights into the nature of the sun.
The senior solar physicist was in Shetland at the invitation of Shetland Astronomical Society, funded by the Royal Astronomical Society.
She also gave lectures and answered questions during two sessions with pupils at Sandwick Junior High and Brae High School, on Friday.
