ISLANDERS interested in becoming involved in the Fairtrade campaign are asked to attend a meeting at the Islesburgh Community Centre, in early March.
The meeting, organised by Shetland Islands Council, has been set up with the aim of forming a local Fairtrade steering group.
The council’s waste prevention officer Brydon Sinclair said: “Shetland achieved Fairtrade Island status in 2005, showing its support to the international campaign that promotes fair and ethical treatment for farmers and workers in the developing world.
“As Fairtrade products have become more readily available we hope the steering group will champion a local Fairtrade Foundation campaign and promote it across Shetland.
“Folk interested in being part of the steering group but unable to attend the meeting can get in touch with me direct for more information.”
The meeting takes place on Saturday 2 March, starting at 2pm.
