News / Power cut closes schools
SCOTTISH & Southern Energy said they had electricity restored to all its customers by 3.15pm this afternoon (Thursday).
The power cut that had affected around 3,000 households in the south of Shetland and the Scalloway area has forced Shetland Islands Council to close its primary schools in Dunrossness and Sandwick.
However since power at Sandwick has since been restored the secondary school in the village will stay open.
Scottish and Southern said on Thursday the loss of supply was due to a “wire-down” fault on its 33kv high voltage network, near Gremista.
A spokeswoman said the fault was reported at 9.15am and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
