News / Took to his heels

A YOUNG Shetland man was told to “watch his step” after pleading guilty to three charges including struggling violently with police officers at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

James Holt, of Ulsta, Yell, also pled guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice by running away from police officers and breaching the peace inside Lerwick’s Thule Bar, all on 27 October last year.

The court heard that police officers wanted to speak to him about a minor matter when he took to his heels.

Defence solicitor Tommy Allan said his client had too much to drink on the night in question and could not remember much.

Fining the 22 year old a total of £475, Sheriff Philip Mann told Holt: “You really have to watch your step here.

“You have previously been given the chance to stay out of the court system but you have not taken that chance.

“You have now three convictions resulting from your appearance here today, one of which will always be seen as serious.”
