News / It’s that time of year again…
HUNDREDS of people turned out for the opening of Lerwick’s winter festival on Saturday.
Bairns from the Peerie Foxes nursery turned on the town’s Christmas lights and led the festival parade ahead of the Lerwick brass band and the Jarl Squad, whose ranks were joined by a familiar man in red who put their beards to shame.
The festival is the first event organised by Living Lerwick, the company formed by town centre businesses to bring life back to Commercial Street.
It will continue until Christmas with market stalls, braziers with chestnuts for sale and a Santa’s grotto every Saturday.
