News / New PO business
ISLES MP Alistair Carmichael has welcomed news that the Post Office has won a seven year contract to provide more services to DVLA, saying it will help secure the future of the branch network.
Under the terms of the new contract, the Post Office will continue to provide licences and tax discs and will take responsibility for other services such as the licensing of heavy goods vehicles.
“This is good news for customers and good news for the post office network,” Carmichael said.
“A number of people in the isles had expressed concerns over the effect that the withdrawal of this business could have had on our local post offices.”
Criticising the former Labour government’s approach to closing post offices and removing services, he said the coalition were committed to protecting the post office network.
